Watercolor Artist

By schooling and work experience, I am a mechanical engineer. I have had a wonderful 45-year career working in many exciting industries including aerospace, aviation, flight simulation, software development, medical device and defense electronics. I recently retired in the fall of 2023 and am looking forward to having much more time to create and paint.

In 2012, though, (after a few decades of life) I discovered something I didn’t know about myself. Thanks to Harold "Pete" Petersen, a celebrated Utah artist and gifted teacher in Salt Lake City, I learned that I could draw and paint. Between jobs, I took a few months of lessons from Pete and found joy and fulfillment like I’d never known before. Only three years later and at Pete’s request, I became an instructor at the Petersen Art Center in drawing and watercolor.

When I am “working” I always feel a connection with my spirit. It humbles me to think grace can move through me and out to others and to see and hear how my art affects them.

When it is time to choose a new painting subject, I usually ask myself, “Have I done anything like this before?” This being said, my work is quite diverse ranging from people, places, landscapes, starry night skies and animals to abstracts which convey emotions and thoughtfulness about this world we live in. I am currently marketing my work locally in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas along the Wasatch Front.
