Joyce Baron

Personal History
Joyce has been interested in Art since she took an Art class in high school. She attended USU to advance her studies of art and loved it. After her marriage to Clark, she transferred to Weber State where she was awarded her degree in Art and Photography. She loves watercolors and working with acrylic paint. While she has done many realistic paintings, Joyce loves creating big bright abstracts. Joyce has studied with many national and local artists and is an experienced presenter for workshops throughout Utah.

Type and Form of Art
Joyce loves to experiment with water based mediums including acrylics, transparent and opaque watercolors, inks, and collage materials which she applies to canvas or heavy watercolor paper. An artist in the truest tradition, she paints what she loves best: abstract shapes with deep inviting colors, wild interchanges with playful symbols, and breathtaking plunges into the unknown. Focusing on color and composition, her paintings radiate energy, power and freedom.
When she needs a break from two dimensional work, she creates fused glass jewelry and art glass sculptures. Her jewelry has the same bright colors and contrasts as her paintings and are designed with the same end in mind.

Art Awards and Shows
Joyce is a Signature member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS) and the Utah Watercolor Society (UWS). Her artwork has won many awards such as: The Springville Museum of Art, Spring Salon “Merit” Award, numerous Utah Watercolor Society (UWS) awards including a state-wide annual show “Best of Show” award, and an “Award of Excellence” in the WFWS annual show.
In addition, her work has been used on the cover of the Sundance catalog and featured in the Palette magazine. She has served as the President of the UWS and the Park City Artists Association. Her work can be seen at her studio in Herriman and in the Juniper Sky Gallery in Kayenta, Ivins, Utah.

Artist Statement
Joyce’s goal is to capture the spirit and feeling that she sees in nature. She loves to display the powerful forces in nature and especially the unique Western landscape in her paintings. Her bold colors and shapes express the emotions she views all around us in our beautiful land. Her works include small to huge abstracts as well as fused art glass abstract jewelry.
