Artist's Statement about this work: I created this on March 15, 2020 soon after the COVID-19 restrictions went into affect. At that time I thought perhaps the effects would be relatively short lived - as of today, May 8, 2020, it might be a long time before the sky is completely clear of storm clouds - but the sun is still shining through.

Artist's Statement about this work: Last fall, an old copy of Philip Jamison's book, Making Your Paintings Work, found me in a used bookstore. Since then, I have painted over 30 of his pieces; he is a master of design. I was at the point that I felt like I had learned a lot from copying his pieces, but I needed to take what I had learned and apply it. I tried a few paintings but wasn't pleased with the results. One day I decided to take a house I had previously painted and add distant fields, like his, to the background. I liked the results. I let this painting sit for a few weeks and decided to make the sky more stormy and add a lake. This painting is a step forward for me and I am glad I was able to incorporate what I had learned from Philip Jamison's book.

Artist's Statement about this work: This painting was completed before the current pandemic, but with an air of anxiety and fear not dissimilar to the climate we now live in. I think the emotive quality of this work makes it appropriate for this exhibit.

Artist's Statement about this work: This image from Capitol Reef National Park is yet another piece that is appropriate for the times. It suggests that even in the driest and most barren times, the best among us still finds a way to bloom and thrive, albeit ever brief and fleeting...

Artist's Statement about this work: I painted this piece from a photo I had taken a few years ago during a very wet, stormy spring. The rain clouds and the constantly shifting sunshine made for the most incredible lighting and I took a lot of photos that day. Dry Creek is a "part-time" drainage into the town of Alpine, from the upper snowfields of Lone Peak, Pfeifferhorn, White Baldy, and Box Elder Peak. It fairly rages during spring runoff, and when all the snow is gone, it earns its name.
